Anthony Elanga tells Manchester United “it’s not rocket science”

Anthony Elanga punished his old side, Manchester United, with the only goal of the game

Nottingham Forest forward Anthony Elanga has sent a simple message about the differences between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest after scoring the only goal of the game in a win against Manchester United on Tuesday night.

Elanga’s winner for Nottingham Forest against his former side has piled more misery on Ruben Amorim’s ‘lost’ Red Devils.

The 22-year-old returned to Old Trafford to haunt his former side on Tuesday by scoring the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win for Forest.

The win has increased Forest’s chances of securing Champions League football for next season, with a top-four finish likely assured.

Tuesday night’s loss continues a season of struggle for Ruben Amorim’s side, who remain in the bottom half of the table.

Elanga’s goal will hurt his former employers the most, as he spent two years at Old Trafford before joining Forest.

The Sweden forward has been in fine form since moving to Forest, having scored six goals and provided eight assists in the Premier League – a sharp contrast to Amorim’s attacking issues.

He spoke about the differences between the two sides after the game and explained why he’s now found a fertile environment at the City Ground to show his talent.

He told TNT Sports: “At United we had a lot of the ball, I say we had a lot of the ball and counter-attack football.

“And here it’s not rocket science, you can see all over the internet we’ve probably got the lowest possession in the league but it’s effective and something we’ve been working on since pre-season.

“It is about attacking the space and getting to the opposite goal as quick as I can.

“I saw the space and I believe I’m one of the fastest players in the league. The finish is something I have been trying to work on.

“Left foot or right foot, I am quite comfortable with both feet this season. All you want to do is keep on improving. Coming here is about playing and developing.

“I appreciate Manchester United so much as I learned a lot there. I am enjoying my football and I want to keep on going.”

Forest will continue their push for a top-four finish against Aston Villa on Saturday in the Premier League, while United faces city rivals Manchester City in a tricky game on Sunday.
