Arne Slot breaks silence on Mohamed Salah's new Liverpool deal

Arne Slot has reiterated that he always believed Mohamed Salah’s contract talks were “heading in the right direction.”

However, the Dutchman acknowledged that Liverpool fans will be relieved to see the Egyptian finally commit to a new deal.

Speculation surrounding Salah’s future had been a major talking point throughout the season, but the forward has now put those rumours to rest by signing a new two-year extension at Anfield.

Salah is enjoying one of his best seasons, and with over 30 goals already, he could set new career-best figures if he maintains his prolific form.

Despite his age, the former Chelsea winger remains at the peak of his powers, and he is unquestionably Liverpool’s most reliable player in front of goal.

His performances have been crucial in helping Liverpool establish a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League as he looks to secure a second league title.

Slot will now be able to build on what looks set to be a title-winning campaign, with Salah’s continued presence at the club providing a major boost to his summer recruitment plans.

Slot said: “I am happy, of course. He has shown for so many years in a row how much value he has to the club, like all the fans and the team-mates they are very happy he has extended for two more years.

“Relief? For the fans I think so. It’s no surprise to you I knew a bit better how the contract situation went. I knew a bit longer things were heading in the right direction. It is a big compliment to Richard Hughes because Mo Salah, as a free agent, can go to any club he wants to.”
