The report claims that “the 21-year-old is expected to fly into the UK in the next 24-48 hours for a medical and to finalise the move.”

Mosquera has already agreed personal terms with the Gunners.

Arsenal have been looking to add a young defender to their squad to compete with William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes ahead of next season.

Mosquera is versatile and can play at both centre-back and right-back. He is expected to fill the gap in the squad left by the departure of Takehiro Tomiyasu, who mutually agreed to terminate his contract.

The Spain Under-21 international has racked up 90 appearances for Valencia and was a regular last season, featuring in 37 of the club’s 38 La Liga games.

Arsenal have already brought in Martin Zubimendi from Real Socidead, Christian Norgaard from Brentford and Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea.

The Gunners are also close to completing a deal with Sporting for striker Viktor Gyokeres. Gyokeres is keen to return to England this summer amid strong interest from Arsenal.

He said: “Maybe. That’s football, you never know. I don’t think about it; we’ll see what happens. If something happens, it will. The most important thing for me is to play for a club that really wants me.”

Gyokeres added: “I only think about scoring and winning. It changes everything. I spent several years there [Premier League] without being able to play a single match.

“So, of course, it’s something I’d like to do. It would be great revenge!”
