Arsenal defender Gabriel signs new long-term contract

Gabriel is one of Arsenal’s longest-serving players

Arsenal have confirmed Gabriel Magalhaes has signed a new contract that will keep him with the club beyond the 2024/25 season.

The 27-year-old’s previous deal was expected to expire in 2027, however, he has extended his stay at Emirates Stadium until 2029.

Gabriel, who is one of Arsenal’s longest-serving players, has been a key player for Mikel Arteta since his move from Lille in 2020.

The Brazil international has racked up 210 appearances and scored 20 goals for the Gunners across all competitions, forming a strong defensive partnership with William Saliba.

On signing his new contract, Gabriel said: “I arrived here as a young player and after almost five years I’m so happy and I’ve learned a lot. I’m so proud of myself, it’s an amazing journey, and I’m so happy to continue it.

“I hope I win some trophies with this club, because I love this club and my family loves the club, too.

“Arsenal is an amazing club and I’m so proud to sign a new contract. I love this club, I love the supporters, my teammates, I love this stadium. I’m so proud and thank you for all the support. We continue together for the future.”

Gabriel was handed his Brazil call-up in November 2021 and has since gone on to feature 14 times for the Selecao. He netted his first goal in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in October 2023.

“We’ve done a lot of good things, and now it’s time to win some trophies,” he added.

“I want to say thank you for everything. I love the fans, and I love how they push the team. I think they are so incredible to keep pushing us every single game. We continue together for the future.”
