Arsenal reach agreement with Sporting to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Arsenal finally have a breakthrough in negotiations with Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres this summer

Arsenal have reached an agreement with Portuguese giant Sporting CP to sign Viktor Gyokeres, according to journalist David Orstein.

Arsenal will finally secure their main target after several months of trying to finalize a deal for one of Europe’s most prolific strikers, pending a successful medical in the coming days.

Reports of an agreement between Arsenal and Sporting have been circulating since last month, with Fabrizio Romano highlighting intense negotiations over the player’s €70 million release clause plus €10 million in add-ons, and these have now been officially confirmed.

According to Orstein of The Athletic, “total agreement” has been reached between Arsenal and Sporting, with the Lisbon club now allowing Viktor Gyokeres to travel to London.

Gyokeres is expected to undergo his medical on Saturday before joining Arsenal on their pre-season tour of Asia, accompanied by Gunners sporting director Andrea Berta on his flight.

Arsenal have agreed a €63.5 million deal with Sporting, with an additional €10 million potentially payable to Portugal in add-ons.

The core structure of the deal, worth a guaranteed £55.1 million (€63.5m) fee plus £8.7 million (€10m) in add-ons, was settled earlier this week.

The 27-year-old striker joined Portuguese champions from Coventry City for approximately £20 million, going on to score an impressive 97 goals in just 102 matches during his two seasons in Lisbon.

Gyokeres will inherit Arsenal’s iconic No. 14 shirt, previously worn by club legend Thierry Henry. The Swedish international marks Arsenal’s standout summer signing, addressing the North London club’s desperate need for a dependable goalscorer.

The Swede had a prolific scoring record in Portugal, but his exit from Sporting has been highly contentious during these final moments, as he affirms his decision to move back into the Premier League.

Gyokeres has accused the Portuguese champions, particularly club president Frederico Varandas, of breaking a “gentleman’s agreement” to allow his departure for €70 million.

The club strongly denied that such a pact ever existed and remained firm during negotiations with Arsenal, prompting Gyokeres to consider legal options to resolve the situation.

Meanwhile, the striker’s absence from pre-season training was deemed a breach of contract by Sporting. However, the crisis has now been fully resolved, with Gyokeres’ agent even waiving his commission to smooth the deal’s completion.
