Tottenham could potentially lose Eberechi Eze to rivals Arsenal in a £59.8 million deal.

Eberechi Eze in a transfer saga between Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur

Arsenal have moved swiftly in their pursuit to hijack Tottenham Hotspur’s deal to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze, following the unfortunate injury to Kai Havertz.

According to journalist David Ornstein, Arsenal have opened talks to sign Palace versatile forward Eze, having backed off the deal this month after extending Ethan Nwaneri’s contract.

This new development introduces a new twist to the transfer of one of the Premier League’s top talents between two London giants.

Tottenham appear to have reached an agreement in principle with Palace to sign the England international, having also settled personal terms with the player, while negotiations progressed between Daniel Levy and his Palace counterpart, Steve Parish.

Spurs reported deal on Tuesday for the attacking midfielder was said to be in the region of £59.8 million (€69m).

Arsenal have re-entered the race for Eze after Havertz suffered a knee injury, prompting the Gunners to return to the market despite initially signaling the close of their summer transfer activity.

However, Ornstein reveals that Tottenham had successfully agreed a deal with Crystal Palace earlier today, Wednesday, but are now prepared to shift to alternative targets if Eze decides to join Arsenal.

There’s a strong indication that he’ll choose to join Arsenal, given the 27-year-old’s lifelong support for the North London club.

Ornstein confirms that Eze “wants to join them,” delivering a significant setback to Tottenham, who are seeking a replacement for the injured James Maddison.

Arsenal appear to be on the verge of stealing a match from their London rivals in the deal for Eze, a move that will delight supporters.

Securing Eze from under the noses of their arch-rivals will boost fans’ optimism, especially after recent criticism over limited signings despite the arrivals of Noni Madueke, Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, and a pay rise for Leandro Trossard on Tuesday.
