Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa signs for Mexico side Tigres

World Cup winner Angel Correa is currently in negotiations to leave Atletico Madrid to Mexico

Atletico Madrid forward Angel Correa is believed to have agreed on a move to Mexico side Tigres for a reported fee of $6.7m over a move in the summer.

Tigres are reportedly locked in negotiations to sign the Argentine World Cup winner ahead of the Apertura 2026.

The club, currently managed by Guido Pizarro, advanced to the semi-finals in dramatic fashion, overcoming Atletico de San Luis over some questionable decision-making by the referee, and faces Toluca in the first leg of their semi-final fixture on Thursday night.

Despite that, Tigres are reportedly on the verge of making a player move by signing Correa. The versatile forward is set to join Liga MX in a move that could send shivers down the spine of Mexican football.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, a verbal agreement has already been reached between Atletico and Tigres. The deal is expected to be finalized at a reported fee of $6.7m.

Correa, 30, who has also won La Liga and the UEFA Europa League with the Spanish side, has reportedly been on Tigres’ radar since March, and after weeks of negotiations, the move is now said to be close to completion.

The Argentine international who has an impressive record in Europe has also won the 2021 Copa America, the 2022 CONMEBOL–UEFA Cup of Champions, and the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

At club level, his career began at San Lorenzo, where he lifted the Argentine Primera División and the Copa Libertadores in 2014 before moving to Europe.

If confirmed, the move could be one of the biggest signings in Liga MX in recent years – a massive coup for Tigres.

Tigres Sporting President Mauricio Culebro recently hinted that Correa was a top target, saying:

“We’ve always said we explore several options for each position. He’s a great player—one any club would love to have—but there are others as well.

“We’re waiting for the right time, once the tournament ends, to make the final decision.”
