Augustine Boakye’s season cut short by ankle injury

Ghanaian forward Augustine Boakye has been ruled out for the remainder of the season after suffering an ankle injury in training.
Saint Etienne coach Eirik Horneland confirmed the news, revealing that Boakye underwent successful surgery during the international break.
Boakye’s injury is a significant blow to his hopes of featuring in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Although he was initially considered a potential candidate for the matches against Chad and Madagascar, a recent dip in form saw his chances dwindle.
Despite Boakye’s absence, the Black Stars secured convincing victories over Chad (5-0) and Madagascar (3-0).
Saint Etienne coach Horneland broke the news of Boakye’s injury ahead of their match against Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain (PSG). “He had ankle surgery during this break,” Horneland explained.
Boakye’s injury marks a disappointing end to a promising season, which saw him score three goals in January.
His focus will now shift to rehabilitation and recovery, with the aim of returning stronger next season. The 24-year-old Ghanaian forward joined the French club Saint Etienne at the start of the 2024/25 season.
The transfer came on the heels of an impressive stint with Wolfsberger AC in the Austrian Bundesliga.
During his time with Wolfsberger AC, Boakye showcased his attacking prowess, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in just 27 league appearances.

His outstanding performance caught the attention of Saint Etienne, leading to his transfer to the French club.
The Lowdown of Augustine Boakye
Before making his mark in Europe, Augustine Boakye had already established himself as a talented player in the Ghana Premier League with WAFA.
During his stint with the club, Boakye played 29 games, impressing with 11 assists and earning seven Man of the Match awards.
His outstanding performance earned him a nomination for the Ghana Premier League Player of the Year award, where he narrowly missed out on the top honor to Hearts of Oak’s Ibrahim Salifu.
Boakye’s success in Ghana laid the foundation for his future moves to Wolfsberger AC and eventually, Saint Etienne.
