Barcelona confirms they will not return to Camp Nou this season

Barcelona has informed its supporters that they will not be returning to their iconic home stadium, Camp Nou, for the remainder of the season.

The stadium has been undergoing renovation work since the summer of 2023, with the initial goal of returning before the end of 2024.

However, delays in construction work have pushed back the completion date, and the club has now confirmed that they will not be able to return to Camp Nou this season.

The renovation work on Camp Nou is a major project, with a total cost of €900m. The stadium is expected to boast a capacity of around 105,000 when completed, with the majority of the work expected to be finished by the start of next season.

However, the delays have caused significant concerns for Barcelona, with the club having to secure a new lease agreement with their temporary home, Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, to cover their remaining home games.

According to The Athletic, Barcelona has secured a new lease agreement with the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys, which has a capacity of 55,926.

The club has informed its members that they will remain away from Camp Nou until the end of the campaign. This means that Barcelona could potentially win their 28th La Liga crown away from their iconic home, with an enthralling title race involving rivals Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid set to go down to the wire.

Hansi Flick’s side is currently top of the table, ahead of Real on goal difference with a game in hand. The two teams are set to clash in a potentially season-defining Clasico on the weekend of 10th/11th May.

With the title race heating up, Barcelona will be looking to maintain their form and secure their 28th La Liga crown, even if it means doing so away from their beloved Camp Nou.

The completion of the Camp Nou renovation project is expected to be finished by June 2026. Barcelona hopes to return to their iconic home for the start of next season, with a reduced capacity while the outstanding work is finished.

The club is eager to return to their home stadium and provide their fans with an improved matchday experience.
