Barcelona are keen on adding fresh legs to its midfield, and Arsenal’s midfielder Thomas Partey has reportedly been identified as an ideal candidate for a potential summer move.

Reports have revealed that Hansi Flick is looking to add more depth to the team; as such, a new midfielder is on the list of possible incomings this summer.

Despite the Blaugrana having a stellar season with their trio of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Marc Casado, the club is looking to include viable alternatives and competition for these stars.

The La Liga champions are looking for reinforcement and have been linked with some big names over the past year, but the club would prefer a cost-effective option due to their financial constraints.

According to The Sun, Barca are keen on getting their hands on Partey, who they view as a cost-effective option that brings a wealth of experience to the table as well.

The La Liga treble winners view Partey as an excellent “dictator” in the middle of the park. The Ghanaian international has also been an ever-present figure for an Arsenal team that finished second in the Premier League this term.

Partey is having his best season since joining the Gunners from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for over £40million

As per the report, Barca coach Flick is impressed by Partey’s profile and sees him as a strong fit for his midfield system.

Although the 31-year-old has interest from Saudi clubs, Barcelona are reportedly the only side to have taken concrete steps towards signing him, having been linked with a move for the Arsenal dynamo in the past.

While Partey enjoys life in London and respects Arsenal deeply, he is also seeking a contract that reflects his value at this stage of his career.

Partey’s current deal expires this summer, but he remains a key figure at Arsenal, having made 35 Premier League appearances this season, notching four goals and two assists.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are closing in on Spanish star Martin Zubimendi, who has excelled in La Liga for Real Sociedad and could prove to be an adequate replacement for the Ghanaian.

But Arteta could be keen to add yet another midfielder to his ranks if Partey leaves, because Jorginho has already left the Emirates ahead of next term.

In May, Mikel Arteta hinted that Arsenal will be looking at a contract renewal for Ghana Midfielder Thomas Partey after showing consistency in the current season.

It remains to be seen whether Partey will be drawn to Barcelona’s project or if he will choose to stay with the North London side and extend his contract beyond this summer.
