Bayern Munich eye Nico Williams as potential Leroy Sane replacement

Bayern Munich’s search for a new attacker has reached a critical stage as the club considers Nico Williams their top priority following recent negotiations.
According to Sport Bild, Bayern held talks with the Spanish international over the weekend, emphasizing their focus on acquiring him to fill the void left by Leroy Sané, who is expected to leave on a free transfer this summer.

The Bavarian giants are under mounting pressure to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. The club’s pursuit of a top striker has become more urgent after missing out on Florian Wirtz, who is bound for Liverpool and with other high-profile targets like Rafael Leão and Kaoru Mitoma cooling their interest.
Williams, who plays for Athletic Club, has now emerged as Bayern’s leading candidate. A meeting between club board member Max Eberl and Williams’ representatives solidified the club’s intentions, making him a key focus in their transfer plans.
Despite the enthusiasm, Bayern faces a significant obstacle in the form of Williams’ transfer cost. His release clause is reportedly around €60 million and salary negotiations are expected to range between €15 and €20 million annually.
This financial hurdle is a primary challenge for Bayern as they weigh the benefits of signing the talented winger against the hefty price tag. The club’s management is deliberating whether the investment aligns with their strategic plans.
While Williams has taken center stage, other names remain in the running. Bradley Barcola from PSG and Chelsea’s Christopher Nkunku continue to be considered, alongside a newer candidate, Ritsu Doan of Freiburg.

The shifting landscape of transfer targets reflects Bayern’s efforts to find a suitable and financially viable attacker to bolster their squad. Interest in Rafael Leão, Cody Gakpo and Kaoru Mitoma has appeared to fade as the club refocuses their attention on Williams.
