Tottenham Hotspur could potentially turn down the option to make Mathys Tel’s loan deal permanent
Bayern Munich to potentially miss out on €50m Mathys Tel sale

Bayern Munich could potentially miss out on €50m as Tottenham Hotspur decides against signing Mathys Tel on a permanent basis.
Bayern is worried that Tel’s performance has not been what both clubs expected it to become but rather a Tottenham flop.
Tel arrived at Tottenham at the end of the winter transfer window with lots of promise – with the potential to impress at Spurs while being handed the No. 11 shirt.
Tottenham have the option to sign Tel permanently for a fee of €50m, but they look less interested now, compared to the prospects envisaged few months ago.
The striker is effectively the fifth choice now in north London, according to Bild.
The 19-year-old is described as having been “anything but good” during his time with Spurs, and the fear is, he’s turned into a flop.

The French international has managed just two goals for Spurs in the campaign since his switch from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.
He netted against Aston Villa in the FA Cup and Southampton in the Premier League but has struggled to exhibit any sign of the impressive cameos he showed to Bayern for Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Tottenham’s not signing him permanently will be a big blow for Bayern as a club.
The German league leaders reportedly had plans of using the funds to help reinvest in the squad, which may eventually affect their summer transfer plans.

Tel was being chased by Chelsea before the deal fell off, as Bayern decided to go for a deal that could favourably boost the player’s chances of playing more games.
Aside from Chelsea, Tottenham’s Europa League quarter-final opponents Eintracht Frankfurt also showed interest in the player last summer.
However, it was Postecoglou’s Spurs who showed more desire for the talented youngster, while also agreeing to Bayern’s terms of engagement.

Manager Dino Toppmoller told Sky Sport Germany:
“Mathys was a topic during several transfer windows, of course because I know him and there’s simply a connection.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t work out the way we had hoped. I’m happy for him that he’s now found a club he’s chosen for himself.
“Let’s see how long he stays there – I believe it’s just a loan. We’ll see.”
Tel is expected to play a big role against Frankfurt in the second leg of the Europa League tie on Thursday in Germany – after the first leg ended in a 1-1 draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Before then, Spurs face a trip to Molineux to take on Wolves on Sunday in the Premier League.
