Bayern Munich are hoping to extend Upamecano’s contract beyond 2026
Bayern Munich’s contract extension with Dayot Upamecano put on hold

Bayern Munich’s talks to extend French defender Dayot Upamecano’s contract have hit a snag due to disagreement on signing bonuses for the player.
According to BILD, the French star reportedly wants a bonus similar to the package Alphonso Davies received when he last extended his deal, while Bayern are reluctant to offer him such a package due to recent big-money renewals.
Bayern’s efforts to renew Upamecano’s contract beyond 2026 have now been put on hold, despite both sides agreeing on most terms.

Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain, Liverpool, and Manchester United are said to be monitoring these developments closely and could likely make a move in the future.
Negotiations are reportedly “nearly complete,” though they are currently stalled over the signing bonus, despite both parties having agreed on the initial stage of the new contract.
The 26-year-old, who joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021, is seeking parity with teammate Davies, who received around €17 million for signing his latest extension earlier this year.

Bayern sporting director Max Eberl is under pressure to control high spending for the Bundesliga champions, and is reluctant to match that figure, similar to the expensive renewals already handed to Davies, Joshua Kimmich, and Jamal Musiala.
Club president Herbert Hainer confirmed at Oktoberfest: “The talks are ongoing, Max Eberl and Christoph Freund are handling them. And of course, I hope that Dayot will stay with us for a long time.”
The Bavarians view him as an important part of their long-term project, but the financial obligations remain complicated.
BILD adds that the base salary agreement is in place, but Bayern are unwilling to exceed the threshold on bonuses that could set an expensive precedent for future negotiations.
