Chelsea approach AC Milan to sign goalkeeper Mike Maignan

Maignan has been linked with an exit in recent months

Chelsea have expressed interest in signing AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan ahead of the start of the Club World Cup, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Maignan, who has been linked with an exit in recent months, is high on the Blues’ shortlist this summer as Enzo Maresca looks to bring in a new shot-stopper following Robert Sanchez’s inconsistent performances last season.

The 27-year-old made the most errors leading directly to a goal in the Premier League last campaign.

Chelsea were reportedly not in the market for a goalkeeper as they assess their current options of Filip Jorgensen, Djordje Petrovic, Sanchez, and Mike Penders, who will join the club from Genk.

However, Romano has disclosed that the Europa Conference League winners are keen to sign Maignan, having kept tabs on the France No.1 goalkeeper since his time at Lille.

Romano posted on X: “Chelsea approach AC Milan to sign Mike Maignan as new goalkeeper.

“Mike Maignan has still not signed new contract at the club and Chelsea are now aware of the situation.

“He’s always been high on Chelsea list with clubs in talks, decision up to Milan.”

Maignan racked up 53 appearances across all competitions last season for AC Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A and failed to qualify for any European competition.

The Frenchman has just one year remaining on his current Milan contract. The Rossoneri are under no pressure to sell Mike Maignan, but a summer departure is likely.
