Julian Alvarez linked with a move to Chelsea

Chelsea are reportedly hoping to sign Atletico Madrid star striker Julian Alvarez next summer for a fee in the region of €150 million, per the reports.

The Argentine has been sensational for Diego Simeone’s side since his move from Manchester City for £82 million just last season.

The Blues are still lacking a proven goalscorer after signing Liam Delap and Joao Pedro in the summer to boost their attacking department.

According to Fichajes, Enzo Maresca’s side are preparing to break the Premier League transfer record by signing the former City and Argentine World Cup winner.

Chelsea are not the only contender for Alvarez’s signature; however, La Liga giants Barcelona and Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly monitoring the forward’s situation.

The West London club are confident of signing the 25-year-old ahead of other suitors with the help of his South American compatriot Enzo Fernandez, who they believe can play a major role in convincing him to come to Stamford Bridge.

Alvarez is an exceptional player, and he has already proven that in La Liga with Atleti last season, scoring 29 goals in all competitions in his debut season with the Madrid club.

He has the numbers to show for his quality as a forward, and will undoubtedly fit into any big club in the world, and Chelsea are bent on securing his signature.

Chelsea, under its new owners, have spent quite a substantial amount of cash on forwards, and would need to improve the other areas of their squad as well.

Spending €150 million on a striker might not be seen as a wise move for them right now, given how much they’ve spent on Delap and Joao Pedro already.

Clearly, they need more depth in the defensive unit and extra legs in the middle of the park. It wouldn’t be far-fetched if they continue to look for options on the left flank of their attack as well.

Aside from that, there is no doubt that Alvarez is a player who could improve any team in world football. It remains to be seen how this situation unfolds.
