Chelsea are looking to sign a striker this summer, with Ipswich Town’s forward Liam Delap among the leading candidates for the role. according to Sky Sports.

The 22-year-old aligns with the profile of striker Chelsea are targeting and will be available for £30m if Ipswich are relegated from the Premier League.

However, Chelsea’s immediate focus is securing a top-five finish to qualify for the Champions League, as achieving this will enhance their chances of bringing in the goal-scoring forward they need to strengthen their squad.

Along with Delap, Chelsea are monitoring other forwards, including RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, Lille’s Jonathan David, and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike.

Victor Osimhen, a long-term target currently on loan at Galatasaray from Napoli, remains under consideration.

However, at 26, Osimhen would be the oldest and most expensive option.

Delap has netted 12 goals in 33 Premier League appearances for Ipswich this season

Chelsea’s transfer strategy under their American ownership has been to focus on signing young players with long-term contracts.

Any move for Delap would likely be finalised through official channels after both Chelsea and Ipswich have completed their respective seasons.

While the two teams face off on Sunday at Stamford Bridge, it’s unlikely any discussions about Delap will take place, given Ipswich’s battle to avoid relegation and Chelsea’s push for Champions League qualification.

Chelsea have already been active in the transfer market this year.

They have reached agreements with Sporting to sign midfielders Geovany Quenda and Dario Essugo for a combined £62m.

Essugo will join this summer, while 17-year-old winger Quenda will make the move in the summer of 2026.
