Borussia Dortmund demand more from Chelsea in Jamie Gittens potential move to the Premier League

Chelsea have seen an improved bid of €50 million for Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens being rejected on Tuesday, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The German club had reportedly rejected Chelsea’s initial bid of €35 million, as reported by journalist Fabrice Hawkins a few days ago.

Fabrizio adds that the London side are likely to get the deal over the line today, which happens to be the deadline for the “short transfer window” before the FIFA Club World Cup commences on 14 June.

However, Enzo Maresca‘s side will continue to negotiate even if they are unable to sign the England under-21 in time for the FIFA competition.

Chelsea have been in the transfer market in search of a right-footed left winger, placing the 20-year-old Dortmund sensation Gittens high on their shortlist.

Obviously, Dortmund were not going to make things easy for the 2025 Europa League champions as they prepare to yet again, cash in on one of their prized assets.

As such, a first bid of €35 million was reportedly rejected, with another €50 million proposal as well turned down today – Dortmund are demanding €70m (£59m) to part ways with the player.

Jamie Gittens for Dortmund

Sources believe that Gittens has told Dortmund of his intentions to move to Stamford Bridge this summer. He racked up 48 appearances, scored 12 goals, and provided five assists for Niko Kovac’s side.

Chelsea have reportedly agreed personal terms with Gittens, who is also attracting interest from Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool.

The England U21 international joined Dortmund from Manchester City five seasons ago, and has seen a significant development in his senior career with the Bundesliga giants.

The winger is under contract at Dortmund until 2028, and looked likely to stay earlier in the 2024/25 season. However, bit-part roles and cameos under Kovac have triggered the youngster to consider his future with the German side.

Should Gittens’ potential move to Chelsea go through, he is likely to compete with the likes of Pedro Neto, teenager Tyrique George, Joao Felix, and Mykhailo Mudryk, who have all struggled on the left side of the pitch for the West London club.
