Carney Chukwuemeka’s loan spell at Borussia Dortmund has not gone as planned, with the 21-year-old midfielder struggling to make an impact due to a string of injuries.
Despite joining the Bundesliga outfit from Chelsea in the winter, Chukwuemeka is yet to make his first start for Dortmund. According to reports, the club has no intention of activating the €35 million release clause included in the loan deal.
However, an extension of the loan deal is a possibility, depending on how the rest of the season goes for Chukwuemeka.

Dortmund’s head coach, Niko Kovac, has expressed his desire to see Chukwuemeka’s role gradually increase as the season progresses. Speaking ahead of Dortmund’s 2-0 defeat at RB Leipzig, Kovac outlined his plans for the young midfielder.
“We have to build him up step by step, which means 10, 15, 20 minutes, maybe even half an hour. That’s what’s possible at the moment,” Kovac said.
The coach also expressed his hope that Chukwuemeka would be able to play for longer periods by the end of the season.
While Chukwuemeka’s future at Dortmund remains uncertain, Kovac’s comments suggest that the club is willing to give him time to develop and prove himself.
Chukwuemeka’s loan spell at Dortmund has been a learning experience for the young midfielder. Despite the setbacks, he has the opportunity to prove himself and potentially earn a permanent move to the Bundesliga outfit.
With Kovac’s guidance and support, Chukwuemeka will be looking to make the most of his time at Dortmund and take his career to the next level.
