Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has come under fire from Ally McCoist after his costly mistake allowed Callum Hudson-Odoi’s winner to sneak in at the near post during City’s 1-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest.
The Brazilian shot-stopper has faced criticism at various points this season amid Man City’s turbulent campaign, even losing his place to Stefan Ortega in December after a dip in form.
Once regarded as one of the world’s best goalkeepers, Ederson now risks Pep Guardiola’s frustration again after being beaten too easily by Hudson-Odoi’s strike.
The former Chelsea winger was given space to drive at left-back Josko Gvardiol, who opted not to put in a challenge.
Hudson-Odoi then unleashed a shot that flew past Ederson’s outstretched hand and into the net – securing a crucial victory for Forest, who now sit four points clear of the relegation zone.
Meanwhile, Man City are left clinging to a Champions League spot.
McCoist was particularly scathing in his assessment of the 31-year-old, insisting the mistake was inexcusable.
“I’m not sure the goalkeeper covers himself in glory there,” he said on commentary duty for TNT Sports.
“Callum Hudson-Odoi attacks the full back and gets the finish inside the near post. The keeper can’t get beaten there.”
