FC Zürich sign Ghana forward Wasiima Mohammed

Wasima Mohammed was a member of the Black Queens team that secured third place in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Swiss giants FC Zurich have confirmed the signing of Black Queens forward Wasiima Mohammed on a three-year contract.

Mohammed joins the Zurich-based side from the Ghana Women’s Premier League side Northern Ladies.

The 21-year-old is the first Ghanaian female footballer to play in the Swiss Women’s League, marking a historic achievement for both the player and her country.

A statement on the club’s website stated:

“FC Zurich is pleased to announce the signing of Ghanaian attacker Wasiima Mohammed. The 21-year-old is a current Ghanaian international and moves directly from her home country to the city club, where she has signed a contract until 2028. FC Zurich warmly welcomes Wasiima Mohammed and wishes her much luck and success,” the club stated.

Mohammed, who will wear the number 11 jersey, was part of Ghana’s squad at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Black Queens claimed bronze.

She began her career at Young Queens FC before later joining Pearlpia Ladies, eventually moving to Northern Ladies, where she flourished before sealing her European switch.
