Frederick Asare completes move to South African side Durban City

Asare hopes to regain his place in the national team after missing the recent call-ups

South African top-flight side Durban City FC have completed the signing of former Asante Kotoko goalkeeper Frederick Asare.

Asare a penned a one-year deal with the club after a successful trial.

He joins the club on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Asante Kotoko.

The 25-year-old lost his spot to Guinean international Mohammed Camara and decided not to extend his contract with the Porcupine Warriors.

Asare arrived at Asante Kotoko on a free transfer in 2022 after ending his long stay at Premier League side Accra Lions, having helped them secure qualification to the top-flight league in 2021.

A statement on the club’s X page read:,

He struggled for playing time in the just-ended season making only 15 Premier League appearances for Asante Kotoko, keeping seven clean and conceding 12 goals in the process.

Asare was handed his first-ever call-up to the senior national team of Ghana last year, but he is yet to make a debut for the Black Stars. He has been snubbed by the Black Stars technical team following his lack of playing time at the club level.

He will be hoping to get regular playing time at his new club to regain his place in the National team.

Asare won the Ghana Premier League during his spell with Asante Kotoko.
