Frenkie de Jong’s contract expires in the summer of 2026
Frenkie de Jong determined to stay at Barcelona despite contract uncertainty

Frenkie de Jong remains committed to Barcelona despite reports suggesting that contract talks with the club have stalled.
According to Marca, negotiations over a new deal were put on hold last month, with discussions set to resume at the end of the 2024/25 season.
With his current contract expiring in the summer of 2026, speculation about De Jong’s long-term future at the club continues.
However, the Dutch midfielder has now addressed the situation, reaffirming his desire to stay at Barcelona.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport, the 27-year-old said: “Let the newspapers talk about me. I’ve been here for a while now, so I’m used to it.
“It can be frustrating. At some point, they invented things, so I had to express myself.”
He added: “I feel good. I’m in very good shape, and I don’t think about my ankle during matches anymore.”
Frenkie de Jong: A Key Cog Under Hansi Flick
De Jong sustained an ankle injury towards the end of the 2023/24 season, sidelining him for a significant period.

However, the Netherlands international has since made a full recovery and has firmly established himself in Barcelona’s starting lineup under Hansi Flick.
So far this season, De Jong has featured in 29 matches across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing one assist.
Barcelona will return to La Liga action on Sunday night, facing Atletico Madrid in a crucial away fixture.
