“The loss of Pooley is a painful reminder that we still have work to do in protecting the lives of supporters and preserving the sanctity of the game,” Okraku said. “I strongly urge the Ghana Police Service to pursue justice swiftly and ensure those responsible for his untimely death are held accountable.”
The incident has had far-reaching consequences, with Nsoatreman FC withdrawing from the Ghana Premier League citing security concerns.
The club’s decision has added to the complexity of the situation, highlighting the need for urgent action to restore safety and confidence in Ghanaian football.
Pooley, a devoted fan of Kumasi Asante Kotoko, was reportedly murdered during a league match incident at Nsoatre, sending shockwaves through the football community.
The GFA President emphasized that the Association is committed to working with stakeholders to eliminate hooliganism and violence at football venues.
While strides have been made in improving infrastructure and enforcing regulations, Okraku stressed that full justice for victims is critical to restoring public confidence in the sport.
His remarks were made in the presence of leading football stakeholders, including the Sports Minister and family members of victims of the May 9 Disaster.
The call for justice for Pooley comes as the football community reflects on past tragedies, reaffirming the collective commitment to the mantra: “Never Again.”
The GFA is determined to work towards a safer, more united football family.
