Ghanaian center-back Abdul Mumin Sulemana has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season after suffering a left knee injury over the weekend.
The 26-year-old Rayo Vallecano defender picked up the injury during his side’s 1-1 draw with Sevilla in La Liga, exiting the match in the 35th minute after experiencing discomfort following a challenge.
After the game, Rayo head coach Inigo Perez initially indicated that further tests were needed to assess the severity of the injury. However, according to Sergio Nava of Union Rayo, the injury is serious enough to sideline Mumin for the rest of the campaign.
Mumin has been a standout performer for Rayo this season, making 24 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing an assist. His defensive solidity has played a key role in Rayo’s push for European qualification, with the club currently sitting seventh in the La Liga standings. Notably, he also leads the league in blocked shots.
His absence is a significant blow to both club and country, as the injury will also rule him out of Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar on March 21 and 24.
Stay tuned for further updates on Mumin’s recovery and potential return next season.
