Ghana thrash Chad to go top of Group I in 2026 World Cup qualifying

The Black Stars secured three points to move to the top of Group I

Ghana demolished Chad 5-0 in their World Cup qualifying match at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday evening.

The Black Stars asserted their dominance from the start, controlling possession and dictating the play on home soil, securing three points to move to the top of Group I.

Otto Addo’s side took the lead early in the second minute when Antoine Semenyo pounced on a rebound after his initial effort was saved by Chad goalkeeper Jourdain Mbaynassem, driving the ball into the back of the net.

The hosts doubled their advantage in the 31st minute through a quality cross from Kingsley Schindler, which Inaki Williams expertly headed home.

The Black Stars continued their offensive onslaught, and just five minutes later, Semenyo made a surging run into the box.

The Bournemouth forward was tripped by Chad’s Issa Lony Hassaballaha, resulting in a penalty awarded to Ghana. Captain Jordan Ayew stepped up to take the spot kick, confidently converting to give Ghana a 3-0 lead before halftime.

The second half saw more of the same, as Ghana continued to press. In the 56th minute, a corner taken by Ernest Nuamah found Mohammed Salisu, who was unmarked in the penalty area, and headed home to make it 4-0.

Nuamah would get his own goal in the 68th minute after receiving a back-heel pass from Ayew in the box. The winger finished with precision, further adding to Chad’s misery.

After this comprehensive 5-0 victory, Ghana strengthened their World Cup qualification campaign. Their next match is against Madagascar next Monday evening.
