GPL : Goldstars defeat Bechem to go top

The Miners are the first side to beat the Hunters at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park this season

Bibiani Goldstars have sent a strong statement to the Ghana Premier League, asserting their title ambitions with a commanding 2-0 away victory over Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Park.

The Miners’ impressive performance not only earned them all three points but also propelled them to the top of the league table.

The match saw Goldstars come out strong, with Ronald Frimpong opening the scoring in the 32nd minute with a brilliant finish following a well-constructed team move that exposed Bechem United’s defense.

The goal gave Goldstars the momentum and confidence to control the tempo of the game, leaving Bechem United struggling to cope.

In the second half, Goldstars continued to press, and their resilience paid off when Alex Aso doubled the lead in the 72nd minute.

The tactical masterclass by the Goldstars’ technical team was evident, as they got their selections and game plan spot-on from start to finish.

The victory marks a significant milestone for Goldstars, who now sit proudly at the summit of the league with 50 points after 27 matches.

They lead the table by two points, ahead of Nations FC, who climbed above Kotoko into second place following their narrow 1-0 win against Dreams FC. Kotoko, meanwhile, have dropped to third place after losing 1-0 to Accra Lions.

Goldstars will return home to face Medeama SC on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at Dun’s Park in what promises to be a mouthwatering encounter.

Medeama, who are fighting to finish in the top four, will be no pushovers, but the Miners will look to their ever-passionate home crowd to spur them on.
