Hearts defeat Kotoko to end GHALCA top 4 on high

The Phobians have finally defeated their rivals after going six games without a win.

Hearts of Oak ended their 2025 GHALCA Top 4 campaign on a high note, defeating eternal rivals Asante Kotoko 2-0 at the Legon Stadium.

The Phobians started brightly and took control of the game from the onset, forcing Kotoko to chase shadows.

Their early dominance paid off just four minutes in when Frank Duku completed a brilliant build-up by slotting the ball through goalkeeper Mohammed Camera’s legs.

Both sides created chances but lacked precision in front of goal, leaving the first half to end with Hearts holding a slender lead.

After the break, Hearts nearly doubled their advantage in the 53rd minute, but Martin Karikari’s volley was superbly saved by Kotoko’s goalkeeper Mohammed Camara.

The Porcupine Warriors pressed for an equalizer but found it difficult to penetrate the well-organized Hearts defense.

The Phobians eventually sealed victory in the 73rd minute when Emmanuel Amankwah powered home a header from a corner, sparking jubilant celebrations among the home fans.

Despite the victory, Bibiani GoldStars were crowned champions of the Top 4 tournament on a head-to-head basis.

Nonetheless, the competition offered all four clubs a valuable opportunity to assess their strengths and weaknesses ahead of the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
