Hearts of Oak reassign head coach Aboubakar Ouattara to Special Advisor role

The Ivorian tactician, who took charge midway through the 2023/24 season, successfully guided the club to a top four finish

Hearts of Oak have announced a significant leadership change, with Aboubakar Ouattara stepping down from his role as head coach and transitioning into the position of Special Advisor to the Board of Directors. The Ivorian tactician, who took charge midway through the 2023/24 season, successfully guided the club to a top four finish, narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day.

Despite this achievement, the club’s management felt that his efforts did not meet the expectations for trophy success, leading to his reassignment. In his new role, Ouattara will work closely with the club’s board, focusing on strategic duties and special assignments designed to support the club’s long-term vision.

The official statement from Hearts of Oak expressed appreciation for Ouattara’s contributions and conveyed optimism about future collaboration to elevate the club to new heights. The decision marks a shift in the club’s technical structure, aiming to bring fresh perspectives to its strategic planning.

Meanwhile, Hearts of Oak have appointed former Asante Kotoko head coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani on a two-year contract. His immediate priority is to prepare the team for the upcoming 2025 President’s Cup against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, scheduled for July 6, 2025, at the Accra Sports Stadium. The appointment is seen as a move to bolster the team’s coaching staff ahead of a competitive season.

However, Dramani’s plans may face early obstacles, as the club is currently under a transfer ban. The restriction is due to a $70,000 debt owed to New Edubiase United stemming from the transfer of midfielder Salim Adams.

Until the debt is settled, Hearts of Oak will be unable to sign or register new players, which could impact their preparations for the upcoming season set to kick off in September. Despite these challenges, the club remains focused on building a competitive squad and achieving success in the new campaign.
