Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez has been candid about his future with the national team should La Albiceleste defend their title, insisting that he would retire to pave way for the younger generation.
Martinez remained crucial all tournament for Argentina during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and was awarded goalkeeper of the tournament particularly for his incredible performances in goal to end the 36-year drought of the South American champions.
Only days ago, Dibu played his part in goal for Argentina in their 4-1 annihilation of Brazil at Estadio Monumental to cap off an unbeaten run in the March international break.
Emiliano Martinez told media outlet B Play that should Argentina defend their world title, it would draw the curtain on his international career.
“If we win two World Cups in a row, that’s it…I’m retiring from international football. We have to make room for other young players”, he said
Argentina remain one of the favorites for next year’s Mondial but will have to be at their absolute best to match Brazil’s incredible back-to back run in 1958 and 1962.
