Ipswich striker Liam Delap favours Man United move

Delap has enjoyed a breakthrough Premier League campaign

Liam Delap is leaning towards a move to Manchester United, according to talkSPORT.

Both United and Chelsea are leading the race to trigger the Ipswich Town striker’s £30million release clause, but the former Manchester City youngster is believed to prefer a return to the north west.

Delap has enjoyed a breakthrough Premier League campaign, scoring 12 goals and providing two assists despite Ipswich’s relegation.

His form has attracted significant attention, with United’s pursuit likely to be boosted if they defeat Tottenham in the Europa League final on May 21 and secure Champions League qualification.

The Red Devils’ clash with Spurs in Bilbao represents their final opportunity to book a spot in Europe next season.

Delap joined Ipswich from Manchester City last summer after spending five years at the Etihad. He has been a standout performer in a challenging season at Portman Road.

Meanwhile, United’s current striking options have struggled for form, with Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee managing just seven league goals between them this season.

Ruben Amorim is also reportedly eyeing a move for Wolves forward Matheus Cunha as he looks to revamp United’s attacking options.

Despite his impressive domestic form, Delap is yet to earn a senior England call-up.

However, he has made an impact at under-21 level, scoring three goals in 12 appearances since his debut in September 2023.

The young forward is expected to play a key role for Lee Carsley’s England U21 side at this summer’s European Championship in Slovakia, where the defending champions will face the Czech Republic, Slovenia, and Germany in Group B.

Notably, Delap was not part of the England squad that won the tournament in 2023 but is now seen as a central figure in their title defence.
