Joao Pedro set to undergo Chelsea medical

The 23-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a seven-year contract

Joao Pedro is expected to undergo his Chelsea medical on Tuesday ahead of completing his transfer from Brighton, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 23-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a seven-year contract and could be available to play in the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup.

Pedro will fly from Brazil to conduct a medical in the United States and could make his debut in Friday’s quarter-final tie against Palmeiras in Philadelphia.

Romano posed on X: “João Pedro to Chelsea, here we go! Agreement done club to club for fee in excess of £50m.

“João will travel on Tuesday for medical tests and contract signing, ready for FIFA Club World Cup.”

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler expressed optimism about working with Pedro next season.

“Yeah for sure,” said Hurzeler to Sky sports when asked if Pedro and Mitoma will be back at Brighton.

“I’m really looking forward for both of them. They are great players, they helped us last season. They are expected to be back next week.”

However, the Brazilian is set to move to Stamford Bridge.

Newcastle were also linked with a move for the forward, with Brighton turning down their bid of around £50m for Pedro before the Seagulls agreed terms of £55m, plus £5m in add-ons, with Chelsea.

Pedro missed Brighton’s final home game of the season against Tottenham.

This follows an altercation with a teammate during training, which also led to him being omitted from the matchday squad for the win against Liverpool.

The 23-year-old netted 10 Premier League goals and provided six assists in 27 games for the Seagulls last term.
