Jubilant Asante Kotoko return home after Toyota Cup triumph

Asante Kotoko has won the FA Cup, the President’s Cup, and the Toyota Cup in just two months.

Asante Kotoko have returned to Ghana in high spirits after their impressive Toyota Cup victory over South African giants Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

The Porcupine Warriors edged the Soweto side 3-2 on penalties at the Moses Mabhida Stadium after a goalless draw in regulation time to lift the prestigious trophy.

The team touched down at the Kotoka International Airport on Sunday evening and are expected to arrive in Kumasi on Monday.

Though they missed out on the Ghana Premier League title last season, the Porcupines can take pride in their silverware haul — having won the MTN FA Cup, President’s Cup, and now the Toyota Cup.

Head coach Karim Zito and his team will be looking to build on this success as they prepare for a challenging 2025/26 season, which will see them compete on three fronts: the Ghana Premier League, MTN FA Cup, and CAF Confederation Cup.

With 12 new signings already bolstering the squad, Kotoko are reportedly set to add two more reinforcements before the season kicks off.

Their pre-season preparations will continue with participation in the GHALCA Top Four tournament, where they will face off against arch-rivals Hearts of Oak, Heart of Lions, and league champions Bibiani Goldstars.

The Porcupines will once again face the Bibiani Goldstars in the Champions of Champions match, scheduled for August 31, before the start of the Ghana Premier League.

The Ghana Premier League is scheduled to start in the second week of September 2025.
