The online news portal claims that “the deal was held up by the situation of Cochrane, who Brentford wanted to keep and had admiration from elsewhere — but he decided to join Tottenham.”

Cochrane moved to Brentford in 2022 to become their head of coaching, and in March joined Thomas Tuchel’s backroom staff at England.

He has worked as the head of player development at Manchester United and held several coaching roles within youth development at England.

Frank is expected to replace Ange Postecoglou after the terms of his move from Brentford were agreed in principle between the two clubs.

Brentford and Spurs have reached a verbal agreement over the deal, which will see the Bees receive £10m for a coach who has two years remaining on his contract.

Postecoglou was shown the exit door on Friday after leading the club to victory in the Europa League final.

Tottenham, meanwhile, finished 17th in the Premier League after losing 22 out of 38 matches last season.

The 59-year-old left after just two seasons in charge, having joined the club on a four-year deal from Celtic on June 6, 2023.

Frank was the leading contender to replace Postecoglou.

He has been in charge of the Bees since October 2018 and led the club into the Premier League, winning the Championship play-off final at Wembley in 2021.

The 51-year-old has helped establish Brentford as a top-flight club on a small budget.

Brentford ended last season 10th in the Premier League, seven places and 18 points above Spurs.
