Karim Zito: Asante Kotoko’s title hopes alive

Karim Zito has been tasked to win the League and the FA Cup

Asante Kotoko’s interim coach, Karim Zito, is determined to lead the Porcupine Warriors to the league title, despite sitting fourth on the table with six games left to play.

Kotoko’s recent slump, which saw them go four matches without a win, prompted the departure of Prosper Narteh Ogum and the appointment of Zito, who has been tasked with winning the Premier League.

During his unveiling, Zito exuded confidence, insisting that a lot can change in the remaining six matches. “Six matches, 18 points can change a lot,” Zito said. “So it’s not over until it’s over. I know we will play against those at the top. So we will fight until the end.” Zito’s words reflect his determination to guide Kotoko to the title, despite the team’s current position.

Zito’s appointment has generated excitement among Kotoko fans, given his impressive track record. He recently guided Dreams FC to a historic CAF Confederation Cup semi-final and famously led Ghana’s U-20 team to the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations title.

His experience and expertise will undoubtedly be invaluable assets for Kotoko as they push for the league title.

When asked about his role and potential evaluation, Zito said, “At the end of the season, assess me as a coach, not technical director. Because at the moment I will coach the team. And thank God I have my father Malik Jabir as my advisor. He is very comfortable with me because he knows me well.”

Zito’s first encounter in the dugout will be a Premier League match at home against Aduana FC at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday.

This match will be a crucial test for Zito and his team, as they seek to get their title campaign back on track. With six games left to play, Kotoko will need to be at their best if they are to pip their rivals to the title.
