Kevin De Bruyne hints at staying in Premier League after Man City exit

De Bruyne recently confirmed that he will leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season

Kevin De Bruyne has suggested he could remain in the Premier League and potentially join one of Manchester City’s rivals following his planned summer departure.

The City legend recently confirmed that he will leave the Etihad Stadium at the end of the 2024/25 season, bringing a decade-long spell with the club to a close when his current contract expires.

Speculation surrounding the Belgian midfielder’s next move has been mounting, with several clubs reportedly interested in securing his signature.

Adding fuel to the fire, Liverpool star Mohamed Salah playfully extended an invitation for De Bruyne to join the Reds on a free transfer.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Salah said: “I want to tell him congratulations for your career.

“He’s done a phenomenal job at City, and he was great for the league. I really wish him the best…and we have a space for him!”

De Bruyne opened up on his future after City’s FA Cup final loss to Crystal Palace, telling Sky Sports, “I want to play good football, whatever the decision will be…

“I know you’re trying to guess where I’m going to go, but I will make my decision, and you guys will know when I know.

“I don’t know [whether I’ll stay in the Premier League], it depends on what comes. Like I said to my Belgium colleagues, I have a family.

De Bruyne has won 16 major trophies with City, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League.

“I have young kids I have to take care of, it’s a decision that has to suit all of us, not just me. When I’m 20 years old and all by myself, I can make a decision, that is very easy.

“But now it’s a bit more complex. Of course. [You can expect to hear a decision] whenever I’m ready to make one. As long as I don’t know, I can’t tell you anything.”
