Kevin De Bruyne set to sign for Napoli

Kevin De Bruyne is expected to complete his move to Napoli next week

Kevin De Bruyne is believed to have agreed to a move to the current Serie A champions Napoli, following his exit from Manchester City this summer.

The Belgian midfield star is set for a free transfer to join up with Antonio Conte, who guided Serie A champions to their fourth league title in the 2024/25 season – Napoli’s second league triumph in three seasons.

The City captain, who looks poised to continue his career playing at a top club, has decided to spend the rest of his playing days in Italy playing in Naples under Conte – De Bruyne leaves City on a free.

De Bruyne has already said goodbye to his City mates and all staff after their last game in the Premier League against Fulham. The 33-year-old has affirmed his desire to play at the highest level.

According to reporter Sacha Tavolieri, De Bruyne has now agreed to sign for the Italian champions, who will also feature in the Champions League next season.

Sacha adds that an agreement has been reached between both sides, with the medical and official announcement scheduled for next week.

The former Chelsea and VfL Wolfsburg attacking midfielder is leaving Man City after they chose not to renew his contract.

De Bruyne reportedly received a concrete offer from Major League Soccer side Chicago Fire, while he was also linked with a move to Liverpool and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

Despite being linked with other top clubs, he was disappointed his City deal had not been extended, saying in April: “Honestly, I still think I can perform at this level like I’m showing but I understand that clubs have to make decisions.

“I was a bit surprised but I have to accept it.”

De Bruyne will likely be linking up with former Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay, who was named Serie A MVP in his first season in the division.

His potential switch to Napoli is likely to improve the much-needed creativity in the middle of the park, while easing the burden of McTominay, who has been voted the club’s Player of the Year.

During a decade of utter sensational display at City, the attacking midfielder provided 119 assists and scored 107 goals in 422 appearances across all competitions for the Etihad club.

De Bruyne is in Belgium’s squad to take on North Macedonia and Wales in World Cup qualifying next month, and then will begin preparations for a new start with Napoli.
