Kompany defends Bayern Munich’s performance despite 1-1 draw with Union Berlin

Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany refused to be overly critical of his team’s performance despite their 1-1 draw with Union Berlin on Saturday. Leroy Sane’s 75th-minute strike was swiftly cancelled out by a Benedict Hollerbach equaliser at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei, leaving Bayern with just a point from the match.

Despite dominating possession and creating more scoring opportunities, Bayern were unable to capitalize on their chances, with only four of their 18 shots finding the target. Kompany acknowledged his team’s disappointment with the result but insisted that their performance was not entirely bad.

“For us, it was a game of two stories, there was the performance and then there’s the result,” Kompany said.

Kompany praised Union Berlin’s defensive efforts, noting that they had done a lot of things right to deny Bayern the three points. He also defended his team’s corner kicks, which had been a successful tactic for Bayern this season but failed to yield a goal in this match.

“That’s been very successful for us this season. We’ve scored a lot of goals from corners as well,” Kompany said.

The draw follows Bayern’s shock defeat to VfL Bochum last week, and second-place Bayer Leverkusen will hope to close the gap on the leaders when they take on Stuttgart on Sunday. Despite the setback, Kompany remains optimistic about his team’s chances, noting that they were still in a position to win the game despite not being at their best.

Bayern will look to bounce back from this draw in their next match, with Kompany urging his team to focus on their performance rather than getting bogged down by the result. With the title race heating up, Bayern will need to regain their momentum quickly to stay ahead of their rivals.
