The victory marked a significant turnaround for Asante Kotoko, who had suffered two consecutive losses prior to the match. Zito’s appointment as coach came after the departure of Prosper Narteh-Ogum, and he made a winning start to his tenure.
“We worked a little bit with endurance, but the talking was too much, and and then I did a lot of finishing,” Zito explained after the match. “Almost every day I do finishing because at the end of the day, if you don’t shoot, you can’t score.”
Zito emphasized the importance of mental preparation and teamwork in securing the win. “In coaching, the psychological aspect is also very important, so it’s all about training. It’s all about the psychological point, telling them they can do it,” he said.
The win marks a new chapter for Asante Kotoko, who are looking to rebuild their confidence and momentum after a tough spell. With Zito at the helm, the Porcupine Warriors will be eager to build on this momentum and make a strong push for the league title.
The win has also seen Kotoko close the gap with league leaders Bibiani Goldstars to just three points. Asante Kotoko will look to continue their winning momentum when they face their arch-rivals Hearts of Oak on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The match promises to be a thrilling encounter, with both teams looking to make a statement in the league.
