Kovacic was notably absent from Manchester City’s recent FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace, fueling concerns about his availability for future matches.

Despite his injury setback, he remains an essential figure for the club, contributing both offensively and defensively throughout the season. His injury will require a period of rehabilitation, which will keep him sidelined for the tournament and other upcoming fixtures.

The Club World Cup begins for Manchester City on June 18 against Moroccan side Wydad. However, Kovacic will not be part of the squad competing in the tournament, where City aims to defend their title after winning it in 2023.

Manager Pep Guardiola expressed disappointment but wished Kovacic a swift recovery, emphasizing the team’s support during his rehabilitation process. In addition to missing the Club World Cup, Kovacic is also set to sit out his national team’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

He is expected to miss matches against Gibraltar on June 6 and Czechia three days later, impacting Croatia’s midfield options as they prepare for the tournament. His absence highlights the challenges teams face when key players are sidelined due to injuries.

Manchester City remains confident in their squad’s depth as they prepare for the tournament. The team will also face Juventus and Al-Ain in Group G at the Club World Cup, where they are reigning champions.
