Liverpool finally seem to have a breakthrough in their quest to sign German star Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen

Liverpool have “verbally agreed a deal in principle” to sign Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Liverpool are finally on the verge of completing the signing of the Leverkusen sensation after what could be one of the longest transfer sagas this summer. After several weeks of negotiations, a breakthrough in the talks has finally been made.

The Reds are finally on the cusp of securing their top summer target, following a reported agreement with the German club for a staggering €150 million, including add-ons, for the 22-year-old Germany international.

According to Fabrizio, the player has already agreed on personal terms with Arne Slot’s side two weeks ago, pending a final seal between both clubs, with Wirtz now set for a medical and contract signing soon to follow.

Fabrizio stated on X(Twitter): “EXCLUSIVE: Florian Wirtz to Liverpool, HERE WE GO!

“Liverpool verbally agree deal in principle with Bayer Leverkusen for package reaching €150m add-ons included.

“Player side already agreed two weeks ago with move now imminent.

“Wirtz set for medical and contract signing.

Should the deal eventually go through – pending official announcement by both clubs, the Premier League champions will smash the British transfer record currently held by Chelsea when they signed Moises Caceido for a whopping £115 million from Brighton in 2023.

The Reds have spent the last few days in talks with Leverkusen and have now clinched a deal for the talented German playmaker.

Florian Wirtz scored 16 goals and providing 15 iassists in the most recent Bundesliga campaign.

Leverkusen have always been consistent with their demands on their €150 million asking price, and Liverpool appear to have finally succumbed after having several bids rejected. A first offer in the region of just €100m was quickly rejected – a second worth €130m soon followed – Both were rebuffed by the Bundesliga side.

Wirtz, who is now likely to move to Anfield, is considered one of the best attacking midfielders in world football after starring in Bayer Leverkusen’s Bundesliga title win in 2023-24, before scoring 16 goals and providing 15 assists in the most recent Bundesliga campaign.

The attacking midfielder has been eagerly waiting to receive the final green light from Leverkusen to fly out for his medical and complete his move. However, it remains to be seen how much of the €150m fee will be guaranteed and how much will be add-ons.

Wirtz is set to play an important role in a Liverpool side aiming to defend the Premier League title for the first time. He will join up with former Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong, who was brought in to replace Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer.
