Liverpool crowned Premier League champions with thumping win over Tottenham

The win allowed Liverpool to celebrate their first title in front of their home fans since 1990

Liverpool were crowned Premier League champions in style, drawing level with Manchester United on 20 top-flight titles, as they demolished Tottenham Hotspur in front of an ecstatic Anfield crowd.

The day was filled with wild celebrations and emotion as Arne Slot’s side sealed their coronation in emphatic fashion.

Needing just a point to secure the title, Liverpool were briefly jolted when former striker Dominic Solanke headed Spurs into an early lead.

However, that shock quickly spurred Liverpool into action, and they had the title signed and sealed with three goals before the break.

Luis Díaz levelled the score in the 16th minute, turning in a close-range pass from Dominik Szoboszlai.

Any lingering doubts were dispelled eight minutes later when Alexis Mac Allister rifled a stunning strike past Spurs goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from the edge of the area.

The celebrations ramped up further in the 34th minute when Cody Gakpo, afforded time and space inside the box, turned and finished coolly to give Liverpool a 3-1 lead.

In the second half, Liverpool continued to dominate, with Mohamed Salah adding to the scoreline, cutting inside and finding the net before taking a memorable selfie with fans in the 63rd minute.

Tottenham’s collapse continued when Destiny Udogie, under pressure from Salah, inadvertently turned the ball into his own net six minutes later.

The win allowed Liverpool to celebrate their first title in front of their home fans since 1990, having last lifted the trophy in 2020 behind closed doors due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
