Man gets stadium ban after Antoine Semenyo racist abuse

The Liverpool man was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence

A man arrested on suspicion of racially abusing Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo during the opening Premier League match at Anfield has been banned from all football stadiums in the UK.

Friday’s game between Bournemouth and Liverpool was briefly halted in the 29th minute after Semenyo reported the incident to the referee.

The 47-year-old Liverpool man, arrested on Saturday on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence, has been released on conditional bail, Merseyside Police confirmed.

The bail conditions include a ban on attending any regulated football match in the UK and a prohibition from approaching within one mile of designated football stadiums.

Police added that the investigation is ongoing and that they are working closely with Liverpool Football Club.

Semenyo, 25, shared his thoughts on social media, saying the night at Anfield would stay with him forever “because of how the entire football family stood together.”

He expressed gratitude to his teammates, Liverpool players and fans, and Premier League officials, praising them for handling the situation professionally.
