Man United invite Rory McIlroy to Old Trafford after Masters triumph

Rory McIlroy has received a special invitation from Manchester United to bring his trophy to Old Trafford following his stunning victory at the Masters.
United manager Ruben Amorim extended the invitation after McIlroy’s dramatic triumph at Augusta, where he secured the prestigious green jacket.
The Northern Irishman completed the career Grand Slam by defeating Justin Rose in a tense playoff on Sunday.

Amorim said in a video message: “Hi Rory. Congratulations for The Masters and I want to invite you to Old Trafford to show your trophy. It is really important to us in this moment.
“You achieved something that a lot of people thought would be impossible and we want that feeling in our stadium. So, I hope to see you soon at Old Trafford and to meet you.”

McIlroy is a Lifelong Manchester United Fan
Rory McIlroy, a lifelong Manchester United fan, has previously paraded a trophy around Old Trafford, most notably in 2014 after winning The Open Championship and lifting the Claret Jug.
Man United, who are still in the Europa League this season, have endured a tough Premier League campaign, and many feel they are far from challenging for top honours.
With three home games remaining in the league, United’s hopes for a top-four finish are uncertain.

However, if they manage to overcome Lyon in the Europa League quarter-finals, they will have the opportunity to host a semi-final leg at Old Trafford.
McIlroy, meanwhile, is preparing for next week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, which likely rules him out of attending United’s home game against Wolves this Sunday.
He will also be competing in the Truist Championship, a signature event on the PGA Tour, when United host West Ham on May 10.
A potential visit could coincide with United’s final Premier League match against Aston Villa, but McIlroy would need to return to the United States shortly after to prepare for the prestigious Memorial Tournament.
