Fermin Lopez talks Chelsea move in the past

Manchester United has been thrown into the conversation for the Chelsea target Fermin Lopez, as the Barcelona star continues to enjoy a breakthrough season for the La Liga side.

The Barcelona academy graduate was being courted in the past by Premier League giants Chelsea in the summer transfer window, but he remained resolute in his quest to fight for regular playing time under manager Hansi Flick.

The attacking midfielder has seen his sacrifice pay off, recording 12 goals and 16 assists in 39 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga leaders.

The noise surrounding a potential move to Stamford Bridge created an easy situation for the youngster, at a time when the Blaugrana were huddling through a patchy moment both on and off the field.

However, despite the lure of a lucrative move to the Premier League, he stayed in Spain.

The 22-year-old, born in Campillo, a municipality in Spain with a population just a little over 2300, is currently recognised as one of the top-performing midfielders in terms of direct goal contributions among Europe’s top leagues.

Fermin Lopez, now an important figure in the Spanish national team, has opened up about his decision to snub Chelsea when they came calling in the summer, insisting he is exactly where he wants to be.

Speaking to Tot Costa on Catalunya Radio, the midfielder reflected on the intense speculation that defined his summer.

“It was a bit complicated; I felt a lot of pressure, but I never wavered. I couldn’t say anything,”

Lopez admitted when discussing the Chelsea links.

Reports of the decisive attacker catching the eye of Man United have now emerged; however, the Catalan graduate remains firmly focused on achieving domestic and European dominance with Barcelona.

Despite the Red Devils now reportedly monitoring his progress, Fermin’s loyalty remains firm. “Barca renewed my contract, and I’m very grateful. As far as I’m concerned, I’d stay here forever,” he stated, strongly ending talks of a departure.
