Casemiro could potentially continue with united beyond 2027

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is set to stay beyond his current contract, which expires in 2027, amid rumours of a potential exit, per the reports.

The Brazilian international is seen as a key part of manager Ruben Amorim’s project, to offer experience and leadership in the middle of the park for United.

The 33-year-old is one of the highest-paid players in the Premier League and has recently faced criticism for his underwhelming performances, as the club continues to look for alternatives in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Casemiro’s contract extends until June 2026, with an option for a one-year extension. However, activating this clause would maintain his substantial current wages—a move the club is hesitant to pursue amid their cost-cutting efforts.

United have been aggressively slashing their wage bill since the arrival of co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, as the overseer of all football-related matters.

He has implemented a cost-cutting strategy, facilitating the departures of David de Gea, Raphael Varane, and Marcus Rashford, with Casemiro potentially becoming the next high-profile player to leave.

According to ESPN, if the Brazilian wants to stay in Manchester, he’ll need to accept a hefty pay cut.

In retrospect, Amorim is planning what insiders describe as a comprehensive midfield overhaul, with the Red Devils hoping to secure at least one marquee signing next summer as part of the rebuild.

Kobbie Mainoo’s uncertain future and Manuel Ugarte’s inability to nail down a starting spot have left the manager frustrated.

United’s push for Brighton’s Carles Baleba last summer proved to be futile. Brighton were resolute not to sell at any price, leaving Amorim disappointed, as he identified the Cameroonian star as his ideal long-term midfield anchor.

A lack of control, disjointed pressing, and a midfield that too often looks lethargic summarise United’s struggles this season.

Fans have become increasingly vocal about the lacklustre partnership between Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, which has struggled to gel under Amorim’s system. Additionally, Sir Ratcliffe has issued a three-year ultimatum for him to turn the club’s fortunes around..

With Casemiro’s contract nearing its end and Mainoo reportedly seeking a move to enhance his England prospects ahead of the 2026 World Cup, the midfield is poised for significant changes in the coming months.

Despite speculation, those close to the player insist he’s settled in Manchester with his family and still fully committed to the project.

A decision about Casemiro’s contract is likely by year-end, with United preparing for offers as early as January.

Whether the Brazilian agrees to a lower salary or looks for a big final payout elsewhere will influence the next phase of Amorim’s midfield rebuild at Old Trafford.
