Ruben Amorim faces a selection dilemma as Mason Mount returns to the fold after three months of being side-lined over a hamstring tear in the 2-1 Manchester derby win since December 15.
The 26-year-old England international is nearing a return to fitness, as Man United welcome Real Sociedad to Old Trafford for the second leg of their last-16 Europa League tie – the fixture comes in too soon for the former Chelsea man, but his manager has heaped praise on the midfielder and views him as a key player.
” Mason Mount… I have to tell you I love that kid. You can look in his eyes that he wants this so bad. This is the most important thing.
“He played in this system, so it’s perfect for him… I have two positions for Mason Mount, so he should be very happy. He fits our style. He’s a very good player inside and also outside the pitch. The type of character we want in this team and the club want.” – Ruben Amorim
Mount’s Man United career has struggled to take off since his £55million move from Chelsea at the beginning of last season – with only one goal and assist, missing 49 games through various injury problems.
In a boost for the Man United manager, Manuel Ugarte also returns to training today after missing two matches with a minor injury – with the hope of making the squad for their encounter on Thursday against Real Sociedad.
Aside from Mount and Ugarte, centre-backs Leny Yoro and Harry Maguire were also not captured at Carrington on Wednesday.
They join Altay Bayindir, Jonny Evans, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Kobbie Mainoo, and Amad Diallo on the sidelines – compounding the injury crisis for the manager in a difficult start to life at the Theatre of Dreams.
