Nashville SC sign Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi

Maxwell Woledzi is expected to be a major addition to Nashville SC’s defensive unit

Major League Soccer side, Nashville Soccer Club have strengthened their backline with the acquisition of Ghanaian defender Maxwell Woledzi from Norwegian side Fredrikstad FK.

The 22-year-old signed a three year deal with an option for another year, and will occupy an international roster slot pending his ITC and P-1 Visa.

He joins the MLS side following a successful negotiations with his club Fredrikstad FK.

Nashville SC President of Soccer Operations and General Manager Mike Jacobs hailed the signing, describing Woledzi as a “tremendous player and leader” and expressing excitement about integrating him into the squad ahead of the 2026 campaign.

Woledzi arrives after a standout spell in Norway. Since signing for Fredrikstad FK in 2023, he made 88 appearances across league and cup competitions.

He enjoyed a stellar 2024 season, recording 29 league outings and helping Fredrikstad clinch the Norwegian Cup awarded to the league champion while earning a spot in the Eliteserien Team of the Year. His influence continued into 2025, where he was voted the club’s Player of the Year.

Before his rise in Norway, Woledzi developed at FC Nordsjaelland from 2019 to 2022, featuring across the U19s, the Reserve Team, and 33 times for the First Team, where he contributed a goal and an assist.

He later moved to Portugal’s Vitória Guimarães SC B, tallying 13 appearances and an assist between 2022 and 2023.

Woledzi’s journey began at age 14 at Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy, a global football and education network with academies in Ghana, Denmark, Egypt, and the United States.

The academy has produced numerous talents who have progressed through affiliated professional clubs including FC Nordsjaelland and MLS side San Diego FC.

With his blend of experience, leadership, and development pedigree, Maxwell Woledzi is expected to be a major addition to Nashville SC’s defensive unit as the club plans for the seasons ahead.
