Negotiations between Arsenal and Thomas Partey over new deal ‘not advancing’

Partey had his best season since joining the Gunners from Atletico Madrid last term

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided the latest transfer update on Thomas Partey, whose contract is set to expire at the end of June.

The 32-year-old has been linked with a move to several clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, and Juventus.

Saudi Pro League clubs are also interested in acquiring the services of Partey, however, his preference is to stay in north London.

The Gunners last week announced the list of players they are releasing later this month, and they also disclosed that they are still in negotiations with Partey.

According to Romano, negotiations between the club and Partey over a new deal are not advancing, and the Ghanaian would be available as a free agent.

He posted on X: “Negotiations between Arsenal and Thomas Partey over new deal are not advancing.

“No agreement so far and now concrete chances to part ways in the upcoming days. Thomas would be available as free agent.”

Partey had his best season since joining the Gunners from Atletico Madrid in 2020 for over £40million last term, making 52 appearances, scoring four goals and providing three assists across all competitions.

He played a pivotal role in Arsenal’s successful Champions League quarter-final victories over Real Madrid.

Arsenal’s new sporting director, Andrea Berta, has been tasked with overseeing the contract negotiations.

Thomas Partey is reportedly open to signing a new one-year deal with an option for a further 12-month extension.

Manager Mikel Arteta earlier hinted that he would be open to Partey remaining at the club.

When asked about progress on a new contract for Partey, Arteta responded: “Yes, there is progress with all the players. I’ll leave that to Andrea and the club to decide and to talk about.”

When pressed if Arsenal’s intention is to keep Partey, Arteta added: “The intention is very clear.”
