Newcastle present second bid for Nottingham Forest winger Anthony Elanga

Newcastle United are keen on signing Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest this summer

Newcastle United had an initial bid believed to be around £45 million rejected by Nottingham Forest last week for the signing of winger Anthony Elanga, according to Sky Sports News.

The Magpies have come back with a new offer of approximately £55 million for a player they attempted to sign on deadline day last summer.

Elanga’s exceptional role last season hasn’t gone unnoticed, and Forest value Elanga at £60 million and have no desire to sell him.

The Swedish international is reportedly impressed by Newcastle’s project, and Eddie Howe views him as a key addition to enhance the team’s attacking options.

Newcastle have maintained a long-term interest in Anthony Elanga, who remains one of Eddie Howe’s primary targets. Sky Sports reported that a potential £50 million bid for the player was rejected on the final day of last summer’s transfer window.

After Forest turned down their initial offer for the former Manchester United forward, last season’s Carabao Cup champions have been considering alternatives, including PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi, and West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus.

In the 2024/25 Premier League season, Elanga delivered one of his strongest performances since his senior debut for Manchester United in 2021, scoring 6 goals and recording 11 assists in 38 matches.

Elanga’s enhanced performance, rising from five goals and nine assists in the prior season to six goals and 11 assists, played a key role in the Reds securing a seventh-place finish in the Premier League.

Elanga certainly appears close to a move to St James’ Park and ready to have a go at Champions League football with Newcastle next season.

United will miss out on Champions League football, but they stand to gain financially from any potential transfer of Anthony Elanga.

The Red Devils could earn additional profit from Elanga’s sale, securing 15 percent of a £40 million transfer fee.

When United transferred Elanga to Forest in 2023 for £15 million, they included a sell-on clause entitling them to 15 percent of any profit from a future sale.
