Nottingham Forest appoint Ange Postecoglou as new manager

Ange Postecoglou won the Europa League for Spurs in his second season at the helm of affairs

Nottingham Forest have appointed former Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou as the new First Team Head Coach, following the dismissal of Nuno Espirito Santo on Monday, according to Sky Sports.

Forest parted ways with the Espirito Santo on Monday following a public exchange of words between the manager and co-owner Evangelos Marinakis in August.

The 51-year-old, who signed a new contract this summer after guiding Forest to the Europa League, said last month that his relationship with co-owner Marinakis was “not the same” and “not so good as it was [last season].

The former Wolves coach’s comments reportedly left Forest chiefs “baffled” and led those within the club to question his commitment to the role.

The Portuguese manager had only a few months remaining on his contract to reach two years at the City Ground since his appointment in December 2023.

Espirito Santo is the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season, a decision that comes just a week after their 3-0 disappointing home defeat by West Ham last weekend.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, Postecoglou has accepted the role to steer the affairs of the club, bringing along some ex-Spurs backroom staff, alongside Scott Munn.

Jacobs further indicates that the new Forest chief and former Arsenal sporting director Gasper Edu played a significant role in both the sacking of Nuno and the appointment of Postecoglou.

Postecoglou, who led Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years and qualifying for the Champions League, was sacked by the London club after winning the Europa League in his second season – defeating Manchester United in the final in Seville, Spain.

However, his performance in the Premier League was quite poor, securing only 17th place in the 2024/25 season.

In a club statement on X(Twitter), club owner Marinskis praised Postecoglou’s proven track record of winning trophies and his extensive experience as key reasons for appointing the 60-year-old manager.

Now, the Australian manager returns to manage another Premier League side, intending to steady the ship at the City Grounds after a poor start to the season. He is in line to quickly sit in the dugout for the Reds in his first game away to the Gunners over the weekend.
